The Scarlet Letter

I had to read this novel for Language and Culture III. It describes the historical background of the seventeenth century in America, When Puritan people came in to settle down looking for a better place to live. The story is about a married woman, Hester Pryne, who had committed adultery. She also had a child as product of that relationship. She was considered as a sin and was forced to wear a scarlet letter on her bosom. She never revel against that punishment imposed on her because she was proud of her actions. That, demostrates her strength. Throughout the novel, it is seen how her strength helps her to growth and at the same time to bring up her little child in such marginal frame.
I know that most of you have read this novel if not, I recommend you to read it carefully. It is long and difficult to read because it is written in old english but once you get familiar with the reading, you could enjoy it.

  1. I have read the story too and I think it is a story about strength and courage. Hester Prynne is well aware that she has committed a sin but instead of revel against her punishment, she decided to wear the scarlet letter with pride. Through that decision, she is showing a strong personality. She also shows us how confident she is when she refused to tell the rest of the people the name of her daughter's father.

  2. Although "The scarlet letter" is a difficult novel to read it has a really interesting and enjoyable theme. The characters´personalities are well described and that makes the reader feel sympathy for some of them or just hate them. I think it is a nice story.
