A teacher gave me this poem to work with in order to develop a sequence of classes, and I liked it very much. It is oriented to work with sixth form in a primary school. It is written in simple present. Though it has a complex vocabulary , its message is quite clear to understand. It mainly refers to "egocentrism" in adolescents and to this concept or feeling of being "unique". Throughout the reading, it's easily seen character's thoughts about how difficult would be for her to find someone who shares the same features or likes as hers.
I recommend it to you because it's an interesting reading, and also because I consider it is a useful resource to work with. It allows us, as teachers, to explore different contexts such as children lifes at school, at home, in the society, etc. Besides, the topic motivates learners to identify themselves with it and hence, to get involved during the whole class in a meaningful way.
