The Devoted Friend by Oscar Wilde

Are you a loyal friend or a fair-weather friend? If you are doubtful about it, you should go to the nearest book shop and get this short story in which, due to irrational behaviour, a close friendship among two men suddenly starts taking a negative turn. You will not only be reading a moving story but also a fascinating one from which you will learn to make your friendship even firmer.

  1. More often than not, "loyalty and friendship" has always been a main theme of inspiration for many writers. In fact, it is very common to find stories that give more relevance to the love felt in relation to a friend than that felt near a lover. Isn`t strange? Let`s think about it!

  2. I love Oscar Wilde, and this work is supposed to be a masterpiece,as all he does.In addition, many things were said about the friendship.Remember that "actions speak louder than words".In my opinion ,to be a good friend is a very difficult quality to achieve ,because it includes many loyal actions. For example, you never never have to forget your friend´s birthday;if this situation would happen ,you will be out of the list!.Leaving aside the idea of "remembering dates",another responsability of a good friend is to make closer contact every time you could.
Another item to take into account is understanding. Thus, you have to tolerate ,and to suffer the bad moments of your friends;even the rupture of the couple.
To sum up,a sum of conditions are necessary in order to maintain friendly relations with somebody else.Too demanding, isn´t it?
