  2. The books deals with some typical characteristics of English people. The Hungarian writes humorously describes what he understands as "Englishness": certain topics that English people love, their behaviour, etc. Hope you like it.

  4. What the books tries to express is the different points of view about being an English person. Every time, we think about English society we know that they are quiet cold to others, closed to any people that share different religion or believes, and that they aren´t friendly. On the other hand, they are strict with their laws, and if you are out of it you´ll be punished and judged by everyone, specially if you come from another country. One possibility is to be a naturalized person, because if
you are not naturalized, you are not a real person. Imagine the situation, to become a
real person, you must become British in all senses, you must ask in a British way, you must laugh in a British way, and you must think in a British way. Of course it is impossible, because people have their own roots and believes belonging to their culture. In this way, you´ll be an alienate person living a life that nothing shares with you.
The reading was great, because it spots the characteristics about a cultural behaviour that we are studying in depth.

  5. I did not read the whole book but I am ready to say that it is difficult to understand the English humour,I suppose this particular feature of English is a distinctive part of their personality. SKY

  6. In my opinion the book expresses the humorous view of the strange habits of the British people given by a foreigner. Though it was a bit hard to understand the English funniness, the author uses honest and open humour to attack the British for everything from ruining tea to being hypocritical. Simultaneously he offers guidelines to foreigners on how to manage as a stranger in Britain. He highlights the confusion that can appear because of the obvious differences between Europe and England, such as the way the bell on a bus is used. With great irony Mikes makes amusing comparisons between European and British habits and makes fun of people´s habits. Underneath the excuse of laughing at the way of life of the British people, the author laughs at human nature in general.
